Ondavell 5 ampoules
DESCRIPTION
Ondavell is a sterile injectable antiemetic solution formulated with Ondansetron (as Ondansetron Hydrochloride Dihydrate), available in two standard therapeutic presentations: 4 mg / 2 ml and 8 mg / 4 ml (both delivering a standardized concentration of 2 mg/ml). As a potent, highly selective competitive antagonist of serotonin type 3 receptors, ondansetron acts simultaneously at peripheral and central neurological sites. Cytotoxic chemotherapy, ionizing abdominal radiotherapy, and surgical tissue handling trigger the massive release of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) from enterochromaffin cells of the intestinal mucosa. This released serotonin activates visceral vagal afferent fibers, transmitting emetogenic signals to the solitary tract nucleus and triggering the central vomiting reflex via the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) in the area postrema. By selectively blocking these receptors without exhibiting dopamine-receptor antagonism, Ondavell effectively suppresses both peripheral emetic initiation and central emetic amplification without inducing extrapyramidal side effects or sedation. It is packaged in boxes containing 5 sterile glass ampoules.
Key Benefits
-
Targeted Emetic Suppression: Provides highly selective 5HT3 receptor blockade, rapidly controlling acute emetic episodes without antidopaminergic or sedative liabilities.
-
No Extrapyramidal Effects: Unlike metoclopramide or phenothiazines, it does not block dopamine D2 receptors, eliminating the risk of acute dystonia, akathisia, or parkinsonian symptoms.
-
Dual Peripheral & Central Mechanism: Simultaneously dampens visceral vagal signaling from the gut and blunts emetic signal integration in the area postrema / CTZ.
-
Flexible Dual Parenteral Routes: Suitable for rapid slow intravenous (IV) bolus, dilution for IV piggyback infusion, or deep intramuscular (IM) injection.
-
Rapid Clinical Onset: Achieves immediate systemic therapeutic concentrations following IV administration, delivering rapid antiemetic control in post-operative or oncological settings.
