vagiclind cream 20gm
DESCRIPTION
Vagiclind 2% is a targeted gynecological antibacterial cream formulated with Clindamycin Phosphate equivalent to 2% clindamycin base (20 mg/g). As a semi-synthetic lincosamide antimicrobial, clindamycin reversibly binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacterial pathogens, inhibiting peptidyltransferase activity and preventing peptide bond elongation during protein synthesis. It exerts potent bactericidal and bacteriostatic activity against the anaerobic and microaerophilic polymicrobial organisms characteristic of bacterial vaginosis (BV), including Gardnerella vaginalis, Mobiluncus species, Bacteroides species, Prevotella species, and Mycoplasma hominis, while largely sparing protective hydrogen peroxide-producing Lactobacillus species. Packaged in a 20 g aluminum tube accompanied by 3 disposable single-use plastic vaginal applicators, it provides targeted local therapy with minimal systemic exposure.
Key Benefits
-
Targeted Eradication of Bacterial Vaginosis Pathogens: Highly effective against the complex anaerobic biofilm responsible for BV, resolving malodorous grayish-white discharge, elevated vaginal pH, and localized irritation.
-
Preserves Endogenous Lactobacilli: Effectively suppresses opportunistic anaerobes while exhibiting lower toxicity toward beneficial Lactobacillus strains essential for restoring natural vaginal microecology.
-
Minimal Systemic Bioavailability: Intravaginal administration yields approximately 4% to 5% systemic absorption relative to oral dosing, significantly reducing the potential for systemic adverse reactions.
-
Direct Mucosal Soothing Action: Formulated in a smooth, non-greasy emollient emulsion base that spreads evenly over the vaginal epithelium, providing symptomatic comfort on contact.
-
Hygienic Calibrated Administration: Packaged with disposable single-use applicators to ensure accurate dosing (approx. 5 g per applicator) while minimizing cross-contamination.
Key Ingredients
-
Clindamycin Phosphate (equivalent to Clindamycin 20 mg/g / 2% w/w): Active lincosamide antibacterial agent.
-
Cream Vehicle & Excipients: Mineral oil (liquid paraffin), propylene glycol, polysorbate 60, cetostearyl alcohol, stearic acid, sorbitan monostearate, benzyl alcohol (preservative), and purified water.
Key Features
-
Product Type: Topical Intravaginal Antibacterial Cream (Prescription Gynecological Medication)
-
Indications: Treatment of symptomatic bacterial vaginosis (formerly referred to as Haemophilus vaginitis, Gardnerella vaginitis, or non-specific vaginitis) in non-pregnant and pregnant women (after initial clinical evaluation)
-
Broad anaerobic antibacterial coverage
-
Pack size: 20 g tube with 3 disposable plastic applicators (providing a complete 3-day or 7-day treatment course depending on clinical protocol)
How to Use
-
Preparation: Wash hands thoroughly before handling. Unscrew the cap from the tube and pierce the metal seal if using for the first time.
-
Loading the Applicator: Screw the open end of a disposable applicator onto the threaded nozzle of the tube. Squeeze the tube from the bottom to fill the applicator until the plunger rises to the stop mark (delivering approximately 5 g of cream, equivalent to 100 mg of clindamycin). Unscrew the applicator and recap the tube.
-
Insertion: Lie comfortably on your back with knees bent. Gently insert the loaded applicator deep into the vagina as far as comfortably possible. Push the plunger completely to deposit the medication, then withdraw and discard the applicator.
-
Dosage & Timing: Administer one full applicator (5 g) intravaginally once daily at bedtime for 3 to 7 consecutive days as directed by a physician.
-
Precautions & Warnings:
-
The mineral oil and excipient base may weaken and compromise the integrity of latex condoms and contraceptive diaphragms; do not rely on latex barrier contraceptives during treatment and for at least 72 hours following completion.
-
Avoid vaginal douching, tampons, and sexual intercourse during active therapy.
-
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin, or a personal history of antibiotic-associated colitis or regional enteritis.
